Louisiana SPCA resumes providing animal control services for New Orleans

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced today that the Humane Society of Louisiana will continue to provide the animal control services for the city in 2011 under a new effort of four years of cooperation.

On December 15, Landrieu administration press secretary Berni Ryan said: "We remain confident that we will be able to execute a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with another animal control provider in the region to ensure these essential services for our residents. We are committed to provide good animal control services at a price that the city can afford. "

Rumors circulated last week that the newly formed New Orleans chapter of human society compared to the services the city animal control for 2011, although the city and representatives of that organization have not confirmed.

"We implore the City to let the public know the plan of control animals," said Ana Zorrilla, CEO of LA / SPCA, in the statement today. "We've seen the devastating consequences over the past three months due to lack of funding offered by the city. The LA / SPCA and may not cover the cost of care for injured animals, pick up abandoned animals, and if the quality of care necessary to shelter humanity moves away from his five-days lost. The LA / SPCA filed a transition plan to maintain the care of the animals with us today, as well as offer to extend our current level of service January 31, 2011 without the recognition of the City Administration.
