Did you know that Thursday nights is Ladies Night here on Movie News After Dark? Yes it is, friends. It simply means that ladies get half off their door price, which as you know is zero. So I guess I’m not sure what the bonus is for ladies on Thursday nights. Perhaps it has something to do with the phases of the moon and my extremely manish musk. Or maybe is has something to do with another round of awesome clips from the world of movie news!
First things first, what is wrong with the Twitter today? Don’t answer that — there’s something wrong on The Twitter every day. Todays’s oddity was Keenan Ivory Wayans making it into the trending topics on the popular social media site, with reports of his death were said to come from the @CNN Twitter feed. They didn’t, and for all we know Mr. Wayans is in perfect health, living in a bunker with his 74 brothers writing the long-awaited Blankman sequel.
Moving on, time to go flying through the jungle with photos from the wild-looking Steven Spielberg produced television show Terra Nova. As you can see from the shot at the top of this page, it’s got some cool mask action. Oh boy! But seriously, it’s about a family that travels back in time to prehistoric Earth as an experiment to try and save humanity. Like Land of the Lost, but on purpose and probably with less subtle sex and drug references. Oh, and visuals that are supposed to be Avatar-esque.
The Oscar hopes of Edgar Wright’s geek anthem flick Scott Pilgrim vs. the World are not over yet, says The Academy. The film — along with Harry Potter, Iron Man 2, Tron: Legacy, Inception and others — has made it into the final seven for the Visual Effects Oscar. Flaming swords. Who knew?
Video streaming is on the rise. The likes of SnagFilms, Comcast and Vimeo are expanding their assortment of offerings for folks who use handy digital devices such as the iPad (or one of the 35 iPad clones released this week at CES). Can’t get enough movies? Well, now you can.
I want Bill Murray to crash a karaoke party that I throw.
The folks at Badass Digest (and by proxy, Mike Sampson at JoBlo) dug up some gorgeous fan art for Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan. It’s equally as haunting as the film.
Are you all caught up in the craze of food trucks that’s sweeping the nation? How about watching movies in a solar-powered movie theater on wheels. It’s not a joke. Now if only we could get them to put Kimchi on their popcorn, it would be a clear winner on America’s Next Great Food Truck, or whatever that show is called.
Fans of Tim and Eric’s Awesome Show Great Job will wish that they were heading down to Park City in a few weeks, as Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim will be there with a brand new short called The Terrys.
And finally, we close our broadcast evening with a list of insults. Regular readers of this column have likely used this to describe the way they feel about my method of reporting the news. I’m still not sorry about what I said about The Social Network. I still don’t like it.
