Who is Billy Mays

Who is Billy Mays
Billy Mays, 50, was found unconscious by his wife in their home in the morning in Tampa on Sunday. The same report indicates that he was interviewed by local television the previous day after being beaten in the head by a falling object when his plane blew a tire on a rough landing at the airport in Tampa.

Billy's friends remember him as a gentle man with a big heart.

I remember the incredible Billy infomercials for absorbent Shammy, the orange glow, and Oxiclean. They helped popularize the "But wait! Call now and get not one but two ..." sales formula has been copied by countless other "must-have" products that push for an immediate sale.

Admittedly, I have been engaged by some of those pitches too-good-to-be-true over the years. Has purchased some of the "As seen on TV" products that never miss up to expectations. I was very skeptical whenever I see the clones often imitated direct response.

Unfortunately, public perception of these "call now" product space is not as important or as serious as similar reputation is "the Gospel."

It's almost too painful to think about how the credibility of the "good news" of Christ has been raised for the immediate response, dollars and numbers. Who can estimate the damage caused to the truth and urgency of the message that has been cheapened and corrupted by the exaggerated claims of the immediate benefits, intimidation tactics, and the hidden agenda of the sellers of the Gospel?

The apostle Paul seems to have found a similar problem from the beginning. He wrote about not wanting to be like the processed goods the Gospel to line their own pockets (In 2 Corinthians 2:17 refers to the danger that the use of the gospel to make money. The RV word "corrupt" has the meaning of "to sell, or sell anything for profit.")

Interestingly, Paul continues to believe the message of Christ to be a matter of urgency and importance due unrivaled. He did not hesitate to say that now is the only opportunity we have to accept Christ. So I wrote to the Corinthians: "Now is the accepted time, behold now is the day of salvation" (2 Corinthians 6:2).

But in saying this, the Apostle also worked virtually indescribable to make clear that he was not using Jesus for money. If you have questions about man's relationship to # 1 seller of the first century for Christ, read again what he endured to show that his own deep trust in a message that way many believe is too good to be truth (2 Cor 6 :3-11).

Billy's passing, and taking into account the depth of the integrity of the Apostle Paul, I'm thinking how important it is for every part of our lives to resonate with the claims that we do for Christ.
